Honor Thy Mother
A ONE-OF-A-KIND RITUAL BENEFIT
Saturday, May 23rd
8 PM to 11 PM
THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF CHICAGO
6400 S. Kimbark Ave.
Chicago, IL 60637
Join us on the evening of May 23rd at the First Presbyterian Church of Chicago for a one-of-a-kind ritual benefit in support of Cabinet of Curiosity’s civic partnership with the Mothers Healing Circle. Honor Thy Mother is an evening of ritual, song, and community—an invitation to gather and honor the women who have given and lost so much.
The gathering will feature a live sonic performance by Zahra Glenda Baker—a vocalist, storyteller, poet, and ritualist whose work aligns beautifully with this offering—as well as participatory rhythm and sound led by percussionist ZenFrankie, who is a Chicago-based Vegan Chef-Reiki Master Teacher, and Meditation Teacher focusing on healthy eating and holistic wellness. Together, we will create an environment that is intimate, reverent, and grounded in shared presence. Guests are invited to bring a photo, token, or object to contribute to a collective shrine of remembrance.
The evening will unfold through ritual atmosphere, culminating in a collective sing-along beginning at 8 pm and closing at 11 pm. Guests will be served vegan sushi, along with drinks from an open bar, depending on ticket tier.

REASONS TO CELEBRATE
In the spirit of joy, we will also be celebrating the birthdays of our Artistic Director, Frank Maugeri, Associate Artistic Director, Samarem Diaz-Negrete, collaborator Sonja Henderson, and two incredible mothers, all within the same week. Come raise a glass with us and help us raise $10,000 to reach a matching donation!
OUR MISSION
As with all of our 2026 programming, we aim to gather in unexpected spaces—drawing attention to nonprofit partners and extending support through shared experience. As one of the oldest operating churches in Chicago, The First Presbyterian Church of Chicago is a progressive church with traditional theology, open to multigenerational, multiracial, multiethnic, and multicultural communities, including queer, immigrant, and disenfranchised groups. Its deep and impactful history is worth learning about, and we invite you to come witness it for yourself in sincere and earnest serenity.
OUR CONNECTION
As with all of our community partnerships, we have been in close collaboration with the Mothers Healing Circle to develop this ritual according to their needs and ideas, empowering them as paid authors and designers. Take a peek at one of the songs we will be singing together, "This Joy I Have" by Resistance Revival Chorus.
AND CATS?
Our Associate Artistic Director, Samarem, may have unleashed some wild, roller-skating cats at Morgan Manufacturing last Friday, April 24th. If you spot them—or find them scratching your floor—please let him know. Fair warning: they’re nearly impossible to catch.
SUPPORT
If you cannot attend, please consider making a donation. Every $25 raised goes to paying each Mother and project participant hourly for their time.
